Welcome to the fascinating world of self-designed moving images! The KINOMAT lets you immerse yourself in the magic of handmade film sequences and analog endless loops.

At a time when knowledge of the art of moving images is increasingly being lost, the KINOMAT offers a unique opportunity to rediscover this traditional craft.

Experience first-hand how rigid images are transformed into vivid film miniatures – without a smartphone or modern technology. With the KINOMAT, every sequence becomes your own personal masterpiece!

ABOUT US

It all started with the idea of a birthday present for Matthias, who is a filmmaker. Angela lives and works as an all-round artist in Berlin and loves crafting.

The hand-cranked “film machine”, assembled from recycled materials and designed by Angela herself, immediately impressed Matthias and others. It was the initial spark that inspired us to combine analog and digital worlds. And so we decided to produce our own prototype.

We have developed the KINOMAT for interactive workshops and are working on offering it soon as a personalizable gift.

We’ll keep you up to date!

WORKSHOPS

Our workshops are aimed at teenagers and young adults who are interested in the history, mechanics and impact of moving images. People who want to put their smartphone aside for a few days and create their own image and story worlds as an analog counter-program to the selfie video.

OUR KINOMAT

The KINOMAT is a hand-cranked “film machine” that harks back to the early days of cinematography. If you turn the crank, the pictures flip over and visually start to move.

The KINOMAT makes it possible to capture a second in the moving image, reproduce it and repeat it as an animation ad infinitum. This can be a sequence of digitally created images or a drawn animation.

Our current prototype is designed for workshops in which the participants design 18 individual pictures themselves under our guidance.

Installations

We offer on request:

Concept development, design and production of a large-format KINOMAT as an installation in public spaces such as museums, theaters, concert halls, schools, amusement parks – indoors and outdoors.
